Despite being described on their website as “The Pride of Pattaya” the Emerald Golf Resort is actually located on Sukhumvit Road between the navy town of Sattahip and the city of Rayong about 40 km from Pattaya itself.
The road between Sattahip and Rayong is often referred to as the Thai Golf Riviera as many of Thailand’s international standard golf courses and facilities are located here.
The Emerald Golf Resort and Emerald Gold course is a genuine country course designed by Nick Faldo and the late Desmond Muirhead
The 18 hole course is located in an original rain forest of full grown trees. The gentle yet stunning contours, volcanic like greens and strategic water hazards combine to make The Emerald Gold Course reasonably challenging.
It is ideally suited to the avid golfer and unlikely to suit beginners and high handicappers!
The Emerald Golf Course is a true public course and does not accept contract group bookings at any time of year. Group visitors are of course welcome.
It is equally popular with, and populated by, both local ex-pat and Thai golfers and holidaymakers alike.
Green fees are on the low/medium side and [at the time of publishing] are as follows:-
Low Season (April - September)
Weekdays 700 baht (around £11GB and $21US)
Weekends and Holidays 1000 baht (around £16GB and $30US)
Caddy 200 baht
Electric Cart 600 baht
High Season (October - March)
Weekdays 800 baht (around £13GB and $24US)
Weekends and Holidays 1200 baht (around £19GB and $36US)
Caddy 200 baht
Electric Cart 600 baht
The clubhouse is far from luxurious but is comfortable and clean with a reasonable restaurant and not overly excessive drinks prices.
In conclusion there are better courses, closer to Pattaya, and certainly in Thailand, but if you aim to play as many as possible this should certainly be on your list.
